Organization of the workshop :

The workshop will take place on the campus of the Monceau Insurance Company Training Centre, near the TGV train station of Vendôme-Villiers (42 minutes from Paris), surrounded by a wooded area providing a fine environment for studying, in a friendly and non-competitive atmosphere. All the participants in the workshop will take part in the final performances. July 2 to 12 will be a period of piano rehearsals, both musical and stage, conducted by the students in conducting who will benefit 6 working sessions. The orchestra’s arrival is scheduled on July 13 and starting then, the participating conductors and singers will be afforded 160 minutes each of personal work with the orchestra, according to a detailed schedule to be communicated later.

The opera will be performed complete, in German. Wherever possible there will be two casts. If appropriate each singer will be invited to study and perform two different parts.


Applications :

The Académie Lyrique is open to all singers and conductors with a prior professional experience or a master’s or doctoral degree from a French or foreign University, Music School or Conservatory. Each candidate will be asked to provide an identity form with name, surname, address of residency, telephone, e-mail address, citizenship, or to return the downloadable application form and a Curriculum Vitae.

Auditions and selections :

1) Non-French resident singers will be asked to send a video recording of an audition or concert, preferably including a Mozart German aria or an aria stylistically related (Haydn, Weber, Beethoven, Rossini, Schubert…). French resident singers will be requested to take part in one of the following auditions in Paris :

    . Friday March 9th, 2007 from 2. to 5.pm.

    . Tuesday, April 3d, 2007 from 2. to 5.pm.


2) Conductors will send a video recording of a work session with an orchestra and/or of a concert.


Audio/Video recordings :

The workshop sessions and performances will be entirely filmed. The Académie Lyrique will provide the participants with the technical equipment necessary for a self-recording. The participants will be asked to furnish the video tapes or DVDs that they wish to record / burn.



Tuition :

For the singers and conductors the workshop’s tuition is 1,700 € (approximately 2,200 US $ depending on exchange rate at time of payment). Upon acceptance of their application, the candidates selected to the 2007 Académie Lyrique will be asked to send a 250 € wire transfer to confirm their participation. This sum will be deducted from their tuition fees, but will not be refunded in case of withdrawal prior to the commencement of the workshop. The tuition fee must be paid in total one week prior to commencement of the workshop, and is not refundable in case of withdrawal after that date, whatever the motive.



Accommodation and travel :

The tuition fees cover neither accommodation nor travel expenses, which must be supported by the participants. The Académie Lyrique can provide various tips for inexpensive accommodation, including breakfast and lunch. More information at 0033 6 28 51 57 74 or by mail at info@academielyrique.org



Participants’ obligations :

1. It is the participants’ obligation to arrive on first day of the workshop with a thorough knowledge of the score. The singers in particular will know their parts by heart, including the spoken dialog.


2. The participants agree to take part in the three staged or semi-staged public performances given upon completion of the workshop. Their participation will entitle them to no remuneration, the concerts themselves being entirely free and occasioning no issuance of entry tickets.


3. After completion of the workshop, a maximum of six laureate singers will be proposed by the pedagogical staff an engagement for a concert given by the Music Promenades (Promenades musicales) in the Vendôme region early September 2007, and organized by the Ensemble orchestral de Paris (music director: John Nelson).
